Women’s Surrey XC League, Reigate, 10 October 2026

After an endless summer of record-breaking temperatures, the return of the Surrey XC League felt like a jump scare in our race diaries. However, tempted by the prospect of clement weather and zero mud, thirteen Epsom & Ewell women made their way to Reigate. The longstanding tradition of a “to spike or not to spike” debate was duly honoured before the team headed to a busy start line of 250 runners.

At over 20 metres of elevation per km, Priory Park is perhaps one of the league’s more challenging courses. Honest intentions to keep running up the “short sharp one” to the ferns (gradient circa 15%, no really) were abandoned, while many behind the hands-on-thighs-walkers secretly rejoiced at the opportunity for a breather. Conversely, onlookers on the downhill piste back to the park’s benevolent grasslands were witness to the odd whoop and some noteworthy arm flailing.

None of this was to deter the E&E women who romped home to win the match.

Team Performance:

  • Epsom & Ewell fielded two teams. The A team finished in first place; 37 points clear of Ful-on Tri in second.
  • The Epsom & Ewell B team also recorded a resounding victory with a 150-point lead over London City Runners.

Notable Performances:

  • Three runners finished in the top twenty. Sophie Lomas was 2nd overall, Lola Williams was 7th and Nicky Stevenson was 18th.
  • The A team packed fantastically with OpenTrack’s shiny new stats showing they were the 3rd tightest of all 13 teams.
  • Sophie Lomas is currently 2nd overall.
  • Lola Williams leads the U20 category, followed by Gracie Brough in 2nd.
  • Marta Cecconi is 4th in the V35-44 competition.
  • Nicky Stevenson ranks 4th in the V45-54 category.
